I had about the same, resulting in the "streets"-table be totally
empty after the import of an OSM-file via "geoinfo.pl" (I did not use
planet.osm but a smaller region, saved from JOSM).
I traced it down (during a train-drive and though I NEVER touched Perl
before) to the line 99 of scripts/perl_lib/Gpsdrive/OSM.pm
(SVN-release 1205)
The condition of the line "if ( $AREA_FILTER->inside($osm_obj) ) {"
returns FALSE, so the nodes are not assigned and the script is not
able to write the ways/segs to the db. I didn't want to poke with the
area-filter, I just commented out lines 99 and 102 (closing-brace to
line 99) and it worked.
Maybe someone who knows Perl can look over the issue.
