This could then be fed to the gtk function:

gtk_window_parse_geometry ()

This resolves geometry and sizes the window for you.

I've been looking at the same area but would be happy to have a --geometry
command line input, still looking at how to read the info from the command line.

Also David you may want to try pda mode as I found this useful on a 800x600 7"
display.  The menu and status are tabs behind the map display.

I also adjusted the real_screen_x and real_screen_y values after line 4752 in
gpsdrive.c to give a full screen display.
