i say remove it.. but what if we made a fake gpsd with this serial-code,
that way people for whom this is working but not gpsd could fire up this
one instead of gpsd. not really clean but should work, and it's out of
the gpsdrive core.

possible, but gpsd is in /usr/sbin - thought to be started as root, it
will drop privileges by itself. still better to try running it as
non-root, and notify if it can't connect to a gps than leaving a rookie
with a gpsdrive without gpsd at all.
