Yes it would!!
Also it would make it more flexible, because you also could do the 
communication via DBUS if available. My last attemts ended in simply trying 
to gather together all the gps-socket and nmea parsing to some files, so the 
are not scattered all over the code. But we'll have to do much more in this 
area.
