from what i understood, some hardware works better with gpsdrive's
serial parsing that with gpsd.
could those people please speak up so we know about it, and have you
tried the gpsd that came with gpsdrive (a.k.a. pre-historical gpsd) or a
recent version and did you report it to gpsd devs?
gpsd is done for this purpose, and it does it's job well, i say use it!
(it also worked on OS X, when i last tried, so portability isn't in the
way)
