yes.
the maps we use, are free of charge, but most of them have non-free licenses.

gpsdrive shows your position gained by the gps on the map.
you can create a "route", which is a list of POIs/Waypoints you create, and 
gpsdrive shows you the distance and direct direction to the next waypoint.
but it's no "real" navigation.

but that's a very long way to go, though.

but IMHO voice input is a thing which should be done by a separate 
application.

and yes, this works.

when you do the things that you can do (documentation, testing, maybe 
tracking), this could help a lot.
