It would be helpful if when adding such restrictions the devel could add
a short comment in the script saying if it is a hard requirement based
on some new feature "x" in that version, or a soft requirement "known to
work with at least this version". Or if unknown leave the version check
out and add the check back in when someone reports it not working with
an earlier version & then set the check to >earlier version.

(I had similar problems on Sarge but after downgrading all the version
requirements I was finally thwarted by an entire missing package; I
now await for Etch to be released before attempting any more coding)
